Functional Fitness and One Lady Rescued…

Guess what happened to me the other day?

I pulled up in my car to visit a business in the town of Port Hope, Ontario when I heard a Lady screaming help, help!

Looking over on the other side of the street I saw a lady down on the floor in her porch unable to get up and clearly in distress.

Quickly discerning nothing was broken I suggested I should  pick her up…but she told me she was very heavy and truthfully, she was a heavy lady, unable to pick herself up from off the floor.

No problem, I said. I’m very strong. Really!

Bringing her up into a sitting position and then positioning myself behind her with my arms under her armpits I front squatted her up to a standing position and saved her day.

She was so very happy and it was a real pleasure to be able to help.

Lessons to learn…

One, don’t let yourself get so weak and overweight you can’t even manage your own body. Functional exercise and sensible eating would have prevented this from probably ever happening.

And good or bad happens over time so be careful if it is bad it does not creep up on you. Watch out for your belt going up a notch or your clothes feeling tighter. Don’t buy a new belt and bigger size clothes to make yourself feel better.
Two, this lady was no lightweight so unless I was functionally strong I could never have helped her.

And three, I said I was very strong-I countered her negative  with a positive never thinking for a second I wouldn’t be able to pick her up.

This is a perfect example of functional strength in action. The ability to use your body in any situation without it letting you down.

If you are not working on your body it will let you down sooner rather than later.

So stop procrastinating and get your body moving!
